“Aboriginal Labour Market Strategies: Increasing Return and Productivity”, published by the Aboriginal Human Resource Development Council of Canada.

This discussion paper presents the business case for hiring aboriginals. The paper suggests that employers and aboriginal agencies need to adopt new policies and strategies to unleash Canada’s economic potential by securing employment for aboriginals.

“The Aboriginal Workforce: What Lies Ahead (Canadian Labour and Business Centre) written by Francois Lamontagne, September, 2004.

The commentary presents a compelling business case for hiring aboriginals. Lamontagne findings note, that although aboriginal people have made considerable gains in increasing their educational levels, their employment record continues to “lag behind that of non-Aboriginal people, and recent trends suggest that the situation is not improving”.

Barrier Free Employers, Canadian Human Rights Commission contains information regarding the employers’ rights to accommodate employees with disabilities.

Straight Talk About Gays in the Workplace: Creating an Inclusive Environment in Your Organization. 3rd edition by Liz Winfeld (2005)

This book is an easy read and gives employers practical solutions for dealing with sexual orientation in the workplace, including strategies for helping an employee who plans to transition from one sex to the other. It includes best practices and the business case for advertising in the lesbian, gay, and transgendered market.
